What are the common failures and maintenance methods of jaw crusher liner?

A jaw crusher is a crushing machine that consists of two jaw plates, the movable jaw, and the static jaw, which simulate the movement of two jaws of an animal to complete the crushing operation of materials. Jaw crusher is an important part of crusher equipment and has been widely used in mining, building materials, metallurgy, and other industries for medium and fine crushing of various ores, rocks, and other materials. During the work, the jaw crusher liner is easy to wear, thus producing cracks and affecting the normal production. The following is a summary of the common faults and maintenance methods of the jaw crusher liner.

Here is the content list:

  • Common faults of jaw crusher liner

  • Maintenance methods of jaw crusher liner

Common faults of jaw crusher liner

Jaw Crusher Sliding Contact Fatigue Wear

The repeated deformation under cyclic load causes localized weakening of the material and cracks to appear first at the jaw crusher liner. Under the superposition of shear stress caused by sliding friction and shear stress caused by reverse load, the larger tangential stress moves toward the surface and forms rolling fatigue wear, and the depth of the spalling layer is generally 0.2-0.4mm.

Jaw crusher rolling contact fatigue wear

Rolling bearings, transmission gears, etc. have relative rolling friction between the surface of the pitting and shedding phenomenon, which are caused by rolling contact fatigue wear. This is after a certain number of cycles of contact action pockmarks or shedding will appear, leaving pockmark-like pits on the friction sub-surface of the jaw crusher liner, with a depth of 0.1-0.2mm or less.

Maintenance method

Selection of jaw crusher material

The presence of non-metallic inclusions in steel tends to cause stress concentration, and the edges of these inclusions tend to form cracks, thus reducing the contact fatigue life of the material. The organizational state of the material and internal defects also have an important influence on wear. Usually, the material with fine and uniform grain size and spherical carbide is beneficial to improve the rolling contact fatigue life. After the bearing steel is treated, the residue makes the surface beneficial residual compressive stress, and carburized layer strength is reduced, thus more prone to micro-cracking. For the undissolved carbide, through appropriate heat treatment, so that it tends to less amount, small body, evenly distributed, to avoid the appearance of coarse or banded carbide, are conducive to the elimination of fatigue cracks.

Reduce the surface roughness of the liner

The practice has shown that reducing the surface roughness of the jaw crusher liner is an effective way to improve fatigue wear resistance. The surface roughness of the jaw crusher liner is related to the contact stress on the liner surface.
